COMPARE AND CONTRAST: MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

It’s a common mistake made by everybody to determine that both modern and contemporary are the same but there lays a world of difference between them. They may look similar in the art of language but when it comes to design they are two opposite sides of the same coin. Modern design is something that belongs to a trend that was upbeat during the past season. But contemporary design is the present and something which has the potential to be carried to the future.

Wood and earthier elements are the rime pillars of modern designs whereas contemporary design constitutes materials like glass and metals.

Design colors

Contemporary design is strictly bounded with grey and hues of black and white even if you want to add different streaks of color, your only choice will be saturated shades like indigo, orange or crimson red. When it comes to modern design earthier shades like brown and olive green are the topics.

Though they exhibit different strategies they have some traits in common too. Both design strategies are adaptive to each other. We are always given open chances to blend both the styles in the respective ratios to carve our style statements. The common traits are:

Both exhibit a minimalist approach in terms of visual appeal. Though minimalistic they are highly aesthetic.

The signature style elements of both the design strategies are keen on maintaining clean-cut architectural lines.

Both leave an open space for us to sit back and relax and this ensures our home is uncluttered and there is an easy flow with well-circulated rooms and proper lighting. Anything from the age 1920s that belongs to art deco design to the transition of the vintage look of the 1970s can be tagged as modern.
